Antique Yad Torah Pointer

Sterling Silver Torah Pointer/Yad - Antique George V (1925)

An exceptional, fine and impressive, uncommon antique sterling silver Torah pointer/yad; an addition to our Judaica silverware collection

SKU C7128

SORRY ITEM SOLD

This exceptional antique George V sterling silver Torah pointer/yad has a knopped cylindrical tapering form.

The bulbous knops are each embellished with impressive embossed and chased scrolling leaf decoration, accented with a scalloped border to the lower portion.

The plain tapering shaft/handpieces are encompassed with pinstruck style collars.

The plain knop to the lower portion terminates with an impressive hallmarked hand, with its index finger pointed.

It is uncommon to find such a piece in exceptional condition; due to their formation they do not stand the test of time.

NOTE: The Hebrew word yad יד translates to "hand" and is used while reading the Torah. The yad ensures that an impure hand does not touch the fragile parchment; issues also arise when ink does not absorb to the velum and there can be damage to the wording.

Date: 1925

This antique yad / torah pointer is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

Full British hallmarks struck to the handpiece and part hallmarks to the interior of the hand are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.
