Description


This exceptional antique Russian silver and polychrome cloisonné enamel tea strainer has a circular rounded form.


The circular bowl of the tea strainer is embellished with a pierced circular design.


The rim of this Russian silver tea strainer is embellished with an impressive cloisonné enamel scalloped border in multiple tones of blue, accented with white and red features.


The shaped handle is ornamented with further bands of blue enamel circular motifs encompassing the handpiece with a circular floral medallion design to the terminal.


The enamel segments are encompassed with applied paralleling rope twist ornamentation.


The reverse surface of the strainer is plain and embellished with the contemporary engraved initials 'SLP' to the handle terminal.


The hallmarks struck to the underside of this strainer include:

Maker's mark: GK (untraced)

Assay mark: Л.О, 1894 (Lev Fridrikhovitch Oleks/Лев Фридриковитч Олекс)

Silver quality/purity mark: 84 (84 zolotniks*)

City mark: St George slaying the dragon (Moscow, Russia)


* 84 zolotniki is equivalent to 875/1000 or .875 standard silver

This antique Russian silver tea strainer is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The enamel is in perfect condition.

The Russian hallmarks struck to the reverse of the strainer bowl rim are all very clear.
