This fine antique German sterling silver cream jug has a helmet shaped form.

The lower portion of the body is embellished with embossed and chased fluted decoration accented with suspended festoons terminating with ribbon bows.

The decoration to the body incorporates two circular motifs, each ornamented with a chased decorated profile of a male figure with long curled hair.

The upper portion of the jug is plain and unembellished.

This fine Hanau silver cream jug is fitted with an angular handle ornamented with chased scrolling leaf decoration with a rosette motif to the upper corner.

This antique cream jug retains the original gilded interior which has wear in keeping with age.

The Pseudo hallmarks struck to the underside and import hallmarks to the rim of this impressive jug include:

Maker’s mark: crowned P, crowned fleur-de-lys (attributed to Georg Roth (1891-1919)- Hanau, Germany )

Importer’s mark: F.P.&S (Faudel Phillips & Sons)

Import mark: London, England

Import date mark: i (1904)

Silver quality/purity mark: .925, 930 (sterling standard*)

* The country of origin hallmarked this item with the standard mark 930 and once imported into Britain the silver purity was tested and hallmarks struck reaffirming the silver is a minimum of sterling standard.

Date: 1904

This antique cream jug is a very good gauge of silver, very good quality and in excellent condition.

The chased and embossed decoration is very sharp.

Full import hallmarks struck to the surface of the rim and the Pseudo hallmarks to the underside are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique teaware.
