This exceptional antique Japanese silver and glass scent bottle has a moon flask form.

The anterior surface of the bottle is embellished with a panel of finely pierced foliate and bamboo decoration accented by two butterfly motifs ornamented with vibrant enamel.

The posterior panel depicts a chased decorated scene of two Japanese ladies, in traditional period attire, crafting fans.

The panel to each surface is bordered with a circular bamboo style border; the border, bamboo decoration to the anterior panel and ladies clothing to the posterior are all highlighted with a gilt finish.

The rounded sides of the scent bottle are ornamented with fine and impressive chased decoration depicting tree branches accented with simplified woodland creatures and birds.

The lower portion of the scent features a decorative hinge; during the crafting process this allowed access for a glass bottle to be encased within the exceptional silver framework.

This impressive example of antique silverware is fitted with chased decorated layered graduating C scrolling shoulders fitted with a silver rounded belcher chain, securing with a spring loaded bolt ring fastening.

The scent bottle is fitted with a screw fit cover ornamented to the top surface with fine chased decoration depicting a gilded Japanese character with a dog.

The sides of the cover are further ornamented with a chased decorated leaf motif link border and geometric designs to the chamfered gilded upper portion.

The cover opens to reveal the original glass stopper and gilt external threads to the cylindrical neck of the scent.

This exceptional scent bottle is probably one of the finest examples of its type you could hope to acquire.
