This exceptional antique Polish silver locking casket has a rectangular form with cut corners.

The plain surface of the body is ornamented with impressive applied designs to each panel, secured to the interior with screw fittings.

The anterior and posterior panels of the antique casket are embellished with a symmetrical design depicting a central vase supporting a scrolling leaf and pineapple composition, flanked by two birds with extended wings amidst further scrolling leaf ornamentation incorporating antique dolphin terminals.

The decoration to the body includes a palmette and rosette motif to each of the cut corners in addition to a collection of raspberries to either end.

The upper and lower rim of the body is ornamented with fine and impressive chased and applied griffin, scrolling leaf, palmette and rosette decorated borders, all in the Regency style.

The locking casket is fitted with a plain hinged cover with a plain swept border and embellished with a fine and impressive central applied panel depicting Neptune driving a horse drawn chariot* with Cupid resting on the leading horse in addition to male and female figures to the background.

The casket retains the original fitted fully working lock and key.

This antique casket is supported by four fine and impressive Regency bracket style feet, incorporating paw, leaf and rosette ornamentation.

This Polish silver locking casket is an exceptional example of its type.

* Neptune is the Roman equivalent of Poseidon. In addition to being known as the god of freshwater and the sea he was also worshipped as the god of horses, patron of horse-racing, with the revised name Neptunus Equester.

This antique casket is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The applied and chased decoration is all very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the casket are all very clear.
