This exceptional antique Russian silver casket/box has been realistically modelled in the form of a chest.

The surface of the Russian box is embellished with fine and impressive scrolling filigree decoration displaying bead and undulating bordered panels accented with scroll and elongated stemmed lobed designs.

Both the cover and the body of the Russian casket are encompassed with an applied shaped, protruding scrolling border.

The domed hinged cover is ornamented with further filigree decoration accented with elevated lobed motifs in addition to an impressive central filigree decorated floral finial.

The cover secures with a shaped hinged clasp to a looped receiver attached to the body.

This impressive Russian casket is supported by four filigree and ball feet.

The hallmarks to the rim of the body include:

Silver quality/purity mark: 88 (88 zolotniks*)

City Mark:St George slaying the dragon (Moscow, Russia)

Date mark: 1834

Maker's mark: НИф (NIF)

* 84 zolotniki is the common purity of silver used for Russian silverware and 88 zolonik was used on higher quality work; this is equivalent to 916/1000 or .916 standard silver

Date: 1834

This antique casket is an exceptional gauge of silver for its type, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The filigree decoration is very sharp.

Full Russian hallmarks struck to the surface of the rim are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from this fine example of antique silverware.
