Description

These magnificent antique Russian silver gilt boxes have an ovoid egg shaped form onto four claw and ball feet.

The surface of each piece is embellished with fine and impressive cloisonné scrolling foliate and floral designs using various tones of blue, red and white sections of polychrome enamel, all on a gilded background.

The ornamentation to these Russian enamel eggs incorporates a large multi toned pheonix design to one side in addition to a large decorative floral rosette to the upper and lower portions.

Each egg shaped box is fitted with a hallmarked push fit cover.

These antique boxes are each supported by four exceptional gilded claw and ball style feet.

The Russian hallmarks to the interior of each composite piece include:

Maker's mark: BA, MC (untraced)

Silver quality/purity mark: 84, 88 (84 and 88 zolotniks*)

Kokoshnik mark: Δ, Delta (Moscow**)

* 84 zolotniki is equivalent to 875/1000 or .875 standard silver and 88 zolotniki is 916/1000 or .916 standard silver.

** This variation of the Kokoshnik mark was used from 1908-1926, determining the date of this piece as circa 1915.
