Description


This exceptional antique George I Scottish sterling silver mug has a plain tapering cylindrical form.


The surface of the mug is plain and embellished with an applied girdle to the lower portion.


The rim and base of this impressive Georgian silver mug are encircled with bands of applied moulded decoration.


The mug is fitted with an impressive S scroll handle with a plain thumbpiece.


The underside of the mug bears the contemporary engraved initial 'L' to the centre of the full hallmarks, which include the assay master's mark.


Such early pieces of Scottish silver are becoming increasingly scarce to the market.


Date: 1720

Condition


This antique Georgian silver mug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

Full Scottish hallmarks struck to the underside of the mug are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silverware.
