This antique sterling silver pocket travelling / expedition combination incorporates a barometer / altimeter, a thermometer and a compass.

The surface of the silver is embellished with engine turned decoration.

The outer rim of the barometer has a serrated edge in order to proffer a comfortable grip when turning the outer dial.

The dial of the barometer has a barometric scale ranging from 23 -31 inches, and an altimeter scale which ranges from zero – 8,000 feet.

The Arabic figures and scale markers are clearly displayed in black, as is the word ‘compensated’ to the lower portion of the face.

The face of the barometer displays the address ‘Asprey, 166 New Bond St, LONDON.’

The barometer / altimeter has a blued steel hand.

The thermometer bar incorporated to the face of the barometer ranges from 30 - 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

The compass action is released by a push catch, which can be closed to avoid the compass needle moving and becoming damaged when in transit.

The face of the compass displays a mother of pearl disc, partly coloured to the ‘Northern’ portion, displaying the phrase ‘(G)INGER PATENT’*.

This Victorian combination travelling / expedition piece is fitted with a hallmarked, articulated ring attachment.

There is a shaped cartouche to one the opposing side of the piece which displays the contemporary engraved initials 'E W E'.

*The first letter of the phrase is indistinguishable.

Date: 1870

This antique sterling silver pocket combination is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.

Each function of this expedition piece is in working order.

The engine turned decoration is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the exterior surface of the compass, and part hallmarks struck to the ring attachment are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique Victorian silverware.
