Description


This fine antique George VI sterling silver cafe au lait set consists of a coffee pot, hot milk jug and sugar bowl, all crafted in the George III style.


The coffee pot and hot milk jug have a plain baluster form and the sugar bowl has a plain circular rounded form, all onto a circular domed spreading foot.


The foot of each piece is encircled with a band of gadroon decoration.


The upper rim of the sugar bowl is ornamented with a band of tooled decoration.


The coffee pot and milk jug are fitted with the original hallmarked hinged covers ornamented with further gadroon decoration to the rims.


Each cover is surmounted with impressive sterling silver tiered urn style finial.


The milk jug and coffee pot retain the original opposing scroll, carved pear wood handles with scrolling sterling silver sockets.


The coffee pot has an impressive swan necked spout embellished with impressive chased leaf decoration to the socket and upper portion.


The milk jug is fitted with a fine and impressive chased leaf decorated spout with a shaped rim.


The coffee pot is fitted with the original removable fabric filter/strainer.


This impressive cafe au lait set was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Edward Barnard & Sons Ltd and bears the retailer’s mark ‘W. Greenwood & Sons, Silversmiths, Leeds & Huddersfield’ to the underside.

Condition


This antique café au lait set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent presentation condition.

The interior of the each piece has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use.

Each pear wood handle shows signs of natural wear, in keeping with age.

The chased decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each piece and part hallmarks to the covers are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these impressive examples of antique silverware.
