Description

This exceptional antique George V sterling silver cafe au lait set consists of a coffee pot, hot milk jug, sugar bowl and sugar tongs.

The coffee pot and hot milk jug have a plain panelled baluster form and the sugar bowl has a hexagonal panelled form onto a circular spreading foot, all in the Queen Anne style.

The surface of each piece is plain and unembellished, with an applied moulded border to the upper rim.

The coffee pot and hot milk jug are fitted with the original hallmarked hinged panelled covers surmounted with impressive sterling silver urn style finials.

These impressive antique jugs retain the original S scroll, carved painted pear wood handles with plain scrolling thumbpieces and cylindrical sockets.

Both the hot milk jug and coffee pot has an impressive swan necked spout embellished with applied moulded decoration to the tip of the lip.

This impressive service retains the original Queen Anne style baluster shaped sugar tongs, with a decorative rounded lobed bridge.

This impressive cafe au lait set is fitted to the original presentation box, with a velvet and satin lined interior.

Each piece of this service was assayed in London, 1910; the silver hot milk jug and coffee pot were crafted by James Wakely & Frank Clarke Wheeler, whereas the sugar bowl was made by Thomas Bradbury & Sons Ltd.

The interior of the cover of the box bears the retailer's mark 'Mallett, The Octagon, Bath'.

Date: 1910
