Description

This exceptional antique Edward VIII sterling silver jewellery box has been realistically modelled in the form of a chest of drawers.

The plain rectangular body is plain and unembellished.

This unusual antique silver jewellery box is fitted with a hallmarked hinged cover ornamented with an applied stylised spindle and bead decorated border and plain rounded thumbpiece.

The box has a leatherette lined interior displaying a bespoke navy blue velvet fitment.

The body of the box incorporates two cedar wood drawers featuring hallmarked sterling silver panels to the anterior surface, each fitted with a bun style handle.

The base is weighted, as to be expected, and retains the original leatherette to the underside.

This exceptional box is supported by four impressive scrolling bracket style legs.

This antique piece was crafted by the Birmingham silversmiths Ernest Wilfred Sanders & Henry Arthur Mackenzie of Sanders & Mackenzie.

Jewellery boxes in this form and condition are uncommon to the market and are highly desirable.

Date: 1936

Condition

This antique silver jewellery box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the box and each drawer, in addition to part hallmarks to the surface of the cover, are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.
