This exceptional antique sterling silver condiment set consists of a salt pot, pepper pot and mustard pot.

The pieces of this Victorian condiment set are realistically modelled in the form of a squirrel and two finch-style birds perched on a leaf.

The surface of each animal is embellished with impressive chased decoration reproducing the fine features of their fur and plumage.

The exceptional and impressive squirrel shaped mustard pot has a hinged cover and retains the original mustard spoon with a leaf shaped terminal.

The pepper pot and salt pot, in finch form, have push fit covers/heads with pierced 'pepper' holes.

Each bird is further ornamented with a small leaf grasped in the beak, bearing the word ‘salt’ to one and ‘pepper’ to the other.

These impressive woodland animal containers are detachable from the original hallmarked maple leaf stand; each component secures to the stand using incorporated pegs.

The surface of the condiment stand is embellished with impressive chased decoration replicating the lateral and sublateral veins in addition to the midrib of a natural leaf.

The stand has a plain scrolling petiole/leaf stem handle with a bifurcating terminal.

This impressive Victorian, London made condiment set was crafted by specialist makers, therefore bears different dates; the squirrel and mustard spoon were crafted by Edward H Stockwell in 1879 and the leaf by J.B in 1882 with the finches in 1881.

Date: 1879-1882

This antique Victorian condiment set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The chased decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the leaf and the underside of each animal are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these examples of Victorian silverware.
