Description


This exceptional antique George V sterling silver tea and coffee service consists of a coffee jug, teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl.


The pieces of this tea and coffee service have a plain circular rounded form onto a circular spreading foot.


The surface of each piece is plain and encircled with applied girdles.


The shoulders of these impressive pieces of antique teaware are encircled with impressive applied gadroon decorated borders, each accented with four scrolling leaf motifs.


The cylindrical upper rim of this Walker and Hall teapot, coffee jug and sugar bowl, in addition to the flared rim of the cream jug are all embellished with an impressive band of applied egg and dart decoration.


The teapot and coffee jug are fitted with plain domed, hinged hallmarked covers retaining the original painted wood and silver finials.


The coffee jug and teapot are fitted with the original, fine and impressive rounded wood handles featuring a plain curved thumbpieces.


The upper bifurcating socket of each handle has been realistically modelled in the form of two snakes heads and the lower socket displays coiled tails in junction with the body; this snake formation reflects the design and style of the renowned silversmith Paul Storr.


The cream jug is fitted with a rounded sterling silver handle, reflecting the same design as the wooden handles to the teapot and coffee jug.


The sugar bowl features two sterling silver handles, each ornamented with a snakes head to the terminals, in addition to a ribbed and leaf decorated collar to the centre of the handpiece.


The teapot and coffee jug is further ornamented with an applied scrolling palmette style motif to the upper portion of the spout and a leaf design to the lip.


The underside of each piece bears the retailer's mark/icon 'Walker & Hall, Sheffield'.

Condition


This antique sterling silver tea and coffee service is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The interior of the each piece has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each piece and part hallmarks to the interior of the covers are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this impressive Walker & Hall teapot and service.
