Description

This exceptional antique George VI English sterling silver hip flask has a rectangular panelled form, all in the iconic Art Deco style.

The anterior and posterior surfaces of the flask consists of three panels ornamented with an impressive continuation of engine turned decoration accented with a plain paralleling border.

Each end of the flask is plain and unembellished.

The hip flask is fitted with a hinged bayonet cover encircled with a band of applied ribbed decoration.

The underside of this Art Deco hip flask bears the retailer's mark 'Wilson & Sharpe Ltd, Edinburgh' in addition to the full hallmarks.

This impressive flask has been crafted in an iconic Art Deco style and is a highly desirable size and shape.

This flask has been tested and is water tight.

To ensure the flask remains water tight, the cork should be moist and therefore fully expanded to provide an effective seal.

There are two recommended methods to ensure the cork does not dry out and shrink:

Method One: Keep fluid in the flask at all times, and keep the flask on its side to ensure the cork remains wet.

Method Two: Fill the flask to the brim with fluid and close. Leave it like this over night, or 24 hours if possible, before use.

Date: 1938

Condition

This antique Art Deco hip flask is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside and surface of the flask, in addition to the lion passant to the cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this antique silverware.
