This exceptional antique Victorian English sterling silver sugar caster has a cylindrical form in the lighthouse style, onto a domed spreading circular foot.

The surface of the caster is embellished with alternating bands of plain and embossed scrolling leaf decoration in a swirl design.

The decoration to the body incorporates the contemporary bright cut engraved initials 'LM'.

The caster is fitted with the original hallmarked detachable bayonet style cover.

The cover is embellished with pierced and embossed scrolling leaf and floral decoration and encircled with a plain border to the rim.

The rounded upper portion of the cover is surmounted by an impressive circular urn style finial.

The underside of the caster bears the retailer's mark 'Reid & Sons, Newcastle-on-Tyne'.

Date: 1891


This antique sugar caster is a very good gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the caster and to the cover are clear in keeping with age and location.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique silverware.
