This exceptional antique George III sterling silver tea caddy has a plain oval form.

The upper and lower portions of the body are embellished with impressive bright cut engraved broad undulating borders incorporating quatrefoil motifs.

The body of this English tea caddy is further ornamented with a bright cut engraved ribbon and simplified leaf garland design accented with a suspended oval shaped vacant cartouche.

This tea caddy retains the original hallmarked flat hinged cover which is encompassed with an identical border to that of the body; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of this piece.

The cover is surmounted with the original sterling silver pineapple style finial, securing to the interior with a screw fitting.

The caddy is fitted with the original locking mechanism; there is no key so the caddy cannot be secured closed.

This impressive antique Georgian caddy retains the original internal divider.

This exceptional tea caddy was crafted by the renowned London silversmith Robert Hennell I.

Date: 1779

This antique English tea caddy is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition, in keeping with age.

There is a subtle surface line to the anterior surface of the caddy due to the internal divider.

The bright cut engraved decoration is crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the caddy and part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this example of Georgian silverware.
