This fine antique Victorian sterling silver Louis teapot has a baluster form.

The body of the teapot is embellished with fine and impressive chased floral and foliate arrangements incorporating a scroll bordered shaped cartouche to either side.

The cartouche to one side is vacant and the other bears a contemporary bright cut engraved crest* depicting a griffins head couped above the motto ‘Verus amor patriae’ - True love of country.

This Victorian teapot is fitted with a plain hinged hallmarked domed cover encircled with a chased undulating scroll and floral motif decorated border.

The cover retains the original hallmarked fine and impressive silver finial depicting an Asian figure in traditional attire, securing to the interior with a wing nut.

The shaped rim of the cover is encircled with an applied scrolling border accented with leaf motifs.

The teapot is fitted with an impressive hallmarked S scroll handle ornamented with a chased decorated leaf ornamentation incorporating a plain thumbpiece.

The upper and lower sockets of the handle are embellished with stylised leaf decoration in junction with the body.

The fine swan necked spout is ornamented with impressive eagle head style ornamentation to the lip in addition to a bearded mask design to the underside.

The undulating shaped socket of the spout is embellished with fluted lobed decoration accented with textured leaf decoration.

This antique Louis teapot is supported by an impressive pierced decorated frame incorporating four impressive scrolling bracket style feet incorporating bead decoration.

This fine teapot was crafted in the same style and by the same maker to the coffee pot W8635; they would sit very well together.

* This crest and motto pertain to the Hughes family.

Date: 1865

This antique teapot is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The interior of the teapot has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use.

The chased and applied decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside and part hallmarks to the finial, handle and interior of the cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Victorian silverware.
