Description


This magnificent antique George V English sterling silver bowl has a Campania shaped form onto a circular pedestal spreading foot and plain square base, all in the desirable Warwick style.


The lower bulbous portion of the body is embellished with exceptional cast and applied large, single acanthus leaf designs alternating with interlacing stemmed bud ornamentations.


The upper rim of the bowl is encompassed with an impressive applied egg and leaf decorated border.


This magnificent Warwick bowl is fitted with two cast sterling silver spiralling handles, each ornamented with bands of bud decoration to either sides in addition to an exceptional and large single scrolling leaf design incorporates into the lower bifurcating terminal and scrolling socket.


The knopped pedestal is encircled with further applied egg and leaf decoration identical to that of the rim to the body.


The domed circular foot is encircled with an impressive chased leaf decorated border.


This highly desirable bowl was crafted by the London silversmiths Edward Barnard & Sons Ltd.

Condition


This antique Warwick bowl is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The cast, applied and chased is all very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body have not been deeply struck and have wear in keeping with age, but remain legible; the hallmarks are struck to a rounded surface and are not as sharp as expected for this maker and exceptional gauge.
