Description

These exceptional antique George IV sterling silver salvers have a plain circular form, in the classic English style.

The surface of each salver is embellished to the centre with an impressive contemporary bright cut engraved coat of arms displaying on the dexter a cross engrailed and on the sinister three escutcheons.

This coat of arms is surmounted with the impressive bright cut engraved crest depicting upon a chapeau gules turned up ermine a gurnet fish in pale head downwards proper*.

The surface of the salvers are further ornamented with an unusual applied bead decorated borders; the location of this border, to the surface and not the rim, is an uncommon and appealing feature.

The raised rounded borders are encompassed with applied moulded decoration to the rim.

These antique salvers are each supported by three impressive bracket style feet, embellished with fluted decoration and further bead ornamentation.

* This marital coat of arms pertains to the family Gurney impaling Hay. These armorial bearings commemorate the marriage of Daniel Gurney and Lady Harriet Jemina Hay, who came together on 12th December 1822.

Further detailed information available on request.
