This fine antique George III sterling silver samovar has plain circular rounded form.

The plain waisted portion of the body is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved coat of arms depicting party per pale in the first, three talbot passant with engrailed furs and to the second three mascles.

The body and upper rim of the samovar are encircled with an applied reed decorated border.

The samovar is fitted with a reed decorated spigot accented with an oval floral motif to the lower portion of the release valve.

The spigot retains the original and impressive semi-circular shaped carved ivory handle.

The samovar is fitted with a pair of exceptional cast and applied handles, modelled in the form of a ram mask grasping in the mouth a plain loop handpiece.

This impressive Georgian samovar retains the original hallmarked domed push fit cover surmounted with a sterling silver ball style finial and encompassed with a band of pierced pale decoration.

The cover is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest displaying a talbot’s head erased, per pale indented.

The body of the samovar is supported by four impressive reed decorated legs with cast and applied female figural ornamentation in junction with the plain body and chased decorated rams feet terminating at the stand.

The incurved plain stand accommodates the original detachable hallmarked spirit burner and is supported by four impressive urn style feet.

This exceptional samovar was crafted by the renowned and collectable London silversmith Henry Chawner.

Georgian examples such as this, with an incorporated spirit burner, is an indication of the fine quality of this piece.

Date: 1787

This antique samovar is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

There is some crazing to the ivory spigot handle in keeping with age, this does not affect the integrity of this item.

There are some natural fire marks to the surface of the samovar in keeping with age, this does not detract from the aesthetic appearance of this Georgian piece.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the stand and part hallmarks to the rim of the cover and spirit burner are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silverware.
