Description

This exceptional antique George III sterling silver samovar has a plain urn shaped form supported by a spreading circular pedestal foot onto a plain square base and four bun style feet.

The body of this impressive antique silver samovar is plain and encircled with a band of applied bead decoration to the upper rim.

The anterior surface of the body incorporates a fine and impressive reed decorated spigot accented with an applied floral motif to either side, in addition to a lion mask design to the lip.

The spigot retains the impressive original stained pear wood handle surmounted with an impressive incurved shaped handpiece/finial.

The circular socket of the spigot is encircled with applied bead decoration in junction with the plain body.

The samovar is fitted with a pair of reed decorated narrow loop handles with bifurcating upper terminals.

This impressive Georgian samovar retains the original plain waisted, domed hallmarked push fit cover encompassed with bead decoration and surmounted with an impressive sterling silver acorn style finial.

The upper and lower portion of the plain pedestal foot is embellished with further bead decoration.

The impressive samovar was crafted by the renowned female Georgian silversmith Hester Bateman; large items of silverware made by this maker are difficult to locate.
