This fine Victorian sterling silver sweetmeat basket has an oval flared form onto an oval spreading foot.

The well of the basket is plain and unembellished.

The body of the basket is ornamented with bands of bead decoration in swirl designs, delineating panels of pierced geometric motifs.

The flared shaped rim of the basket incorporates the bead ornamentation from the body and is embellished with a stylised leaf design to each incurve.

This Victorian basket is fitted with a hallmarked pierced decorated interwoven design swing handle, with a rectangular vacant cartouche to the centre of the handpiece.

The foot of this antique basket is ornamented with embossed batwing decoration accented with a bifurcating scroll design to either end.

Date: 1893

This antique basket is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.

The basket has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.

The embossed decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body and part hallmarks struck to the handle are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine Victorian basket.
