SOLD - Sterling Silver Taper Chamber Candlestick - Antique William IV

This fine antique William IV sterling silver taper chamber candlestick (chamberstick) has a naturalistic lily pad shaped form onto a plain collet style base.

The lily pad leaf wax pan of the chamberstick is fitted with a spiralling stem/peduncle forming a loop handle and terminating with an integrated floral receptacle capital.

The chamberstick is embellished with chased decoration reproducing the naturalistic textures of the stem and leaf.

The chamber candlestick retains the original detachable hallmarked octofoil petal shaped sconce and the original detachable hallmarked snuffer.

The snuffer has a conical form and is surmounted by simplified urn style finial.

This style of taperstick is traditionally mounted to the centre of an inkstand.

Date: 1833

This antique chamberstick is an exceptional gauge of silver, fine quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The chased decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the collet base and snuffer, and part hallmarks to the sconce all show signs of wear, in keeping with age, but remain legible.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of antique silverware.

Length from back of handle to rim 7.4cm/2.9"

Width 6.5cm/2.6"

Height to top of sconce 5cm/2"

Diameter 1.9cm/0.7"
