Description

This exceptional antique George IV three piece sterling silver tea service consists of a teapot, cream jug, and sugar bowl.

Each piece of this impressive set has a compressed circular rounded form onto four Regency style bracket feet.

The body of each piece is embellished with large and impressive chased interlacing scrolling and floral decoration on a matte textured background.

The ornamentation to each George IV silver piece incorporates a shaped cartouche to one side displaying the contemporary bright cut engraved crest of a squirrel sejant cracking/eating a nut.

The upper rim of the teapot is encircled with an impressive interlacing grape and vine decorated shaped border, and the cream jug and sugar bowl are encompassed with tired leaf, gadroon and scroll designs.

The teapot is fitted with a plain domed hinged hallmarked cover embellished with further floral and scrolling leaf decoration and surmounted with the impressive stemmed bud and foliate decorated finial.

The teapot is fitted with a carved painted wood opposing scroll handle with a plain scrolling thumbpiece.

The cream jug and sugar bowl are fitted with C scroll sterling silver handles with layered leaf decoration to the upper portion.

The teapot is fitted with a plain swan necked spout embellished with a large single leaf design to the underside in addition to an applied wheat mask to the upper plateau.

Each component of this service is supported by four Regency style bracket feet ornamented with paw, scrolling leaf and floral decoration.

The cream jug and sugar bowl retain the original gilded interiors.

The teapot of this exceptional London silver tea service was crafted by Edward Farrell in 1822 and the cream and sugar bear the marks for William Eaton, 1824; each piece features the matching heraldic credentials.
