Description

This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver and cowrie shell snuff box has an ovoid shaped form.

The smooth cowrie/cowry shell is fitted to a plain sterling silver mount.

The mount retains the original flush hinged hallmarked cover; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of the piece.

The anterior surface of the cover is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved coat of arms depicting party per fess, in chief three lion's heads erased.

The hinge is embellished with a band of bright cut engraved simplified shell, floral and leaf motifs below the contemporary initials 'AMR'.

Condition

This antique Georgian cowrie shell snuff box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The cowrie shell is in perfect condition

The bright cut engraved decoration is all very crisp

The maker's mark to the interior of the cover is very clear; the single hallmark was often the case with this type of box.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this antique silverware.
