This fine antique Victorian sterling silver desk standish has a shaped rectangular form in the Regency style.

The central subtly serpentine shaped plateau is encircled with a sunken undulating shaped border, which further composes a pen well.

The stand is embellished with a fine and impressive applied moulded border accented with chased scrolling leaf motifs in addition to four large scrolling leaf and shell designs.

The desk standish is supported by four impressive embossed decorated Regency bracket style feet.

Either side of the shaped plateau is ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a dove with an olive branch.

The stand has integrated hallmarked waisted receivers to accommodate the two large inkpots in addition to a central hallmarked receptacle.

Each receiver has an applied moulded border to the rim.

The plain baluster shaped panelled central receptacle is surmounted with the original hallmarked sterling silver taper candlestick.

The taperstick has a shaped circular form with a sunken well surmounted with a plain baluster capital.

The shaped rim of the taperstick is encircled with an impressive applied moulded border accented with a leaf motif to each incurve.

The two large original circular rounded moulded and cut glass ink pots retain the original plain hallmarked sterling silver collars.

Each ink pot is fitted with the original hallmarked push fit circular shaped cover with a sunken central well and border reflecting that of the taperstick.

The sunken well of the ink pot covers and taperstick are each embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest identical to those on the plateau.

This fine desk standish is a large and impressive example of its type.

Date: 1867

This antique desk standish is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent presentation condition.

The glass ink pots are in perfect condition.

The applied and embossed decoration is all very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the stand, rim of the taperstick and inkpot collars and surface of the covers are all very clear.

The part hallmarks to the central receptacle and ink pot receivers are all very clear; there is some slight wear to the receptacle due to their location, but they remain legible.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique silverware.
