SOLD - Sterling Silver and Tusk Pint Mug - Antique George VI

This exceptional George VI sterling silver and tusk pint mug has a plain cylindrical rounded form onto a spreading collet foot.

The surface of this fine example of antique silverware is plain and unembellished with an applied moulded rim.

This mug is fitted with a fine and impressive narwhal tusk* handle with sterling silver sockets.

The underside of the mug bears the retailer’s mark ‘Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company, 112 Regent Street W’.

* A narwhal is a medium sized toothed Arctic whale, the male of the species being characterised by its single 2-3 metre long tusk. The tusk is actually an incisor tooth which projects in a left-handed helix from the narwhal's upper jaw.

Date: 1938

This antique mug is a very good gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The mug has been professionally polished.

There is some crazing to the fine and impressive tusk handle as to be expected, in keeping with age; this does not affect the integrity of the piece.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the mug are very clear.

Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.
