Scottish Sterling Silver Caddy Spoon - Antique George V (1918)

This exceptional antique George V Scottish sterling silver caddy spoon has a heart shaped bowl.

The handle terminal is embellished with a cast escutcheon displaying the royal arms of Scotland, a lion rampant armed and langued within a double tressure flory-counter-flory of the second, all surmounted with a royal coronet.

The handle stem is further ornamented with a large thistle head and bifurcating leaf design.

The hear shaped bowl is embellished with a scene depicting Balmoral castle* in relief, all on a landscape background; a piece displaying this scene is unusual and collectable.

This impressive solid silver caddy spoon was crafted by the Scottish silversmith William Robb**.

* Balmoral castle is the Scottish holiday home for the Royal Family. This category A-listed building is the largest estate house in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The build was completed in 1856 under the supervision of Architect William Smith and directed by Prince Albert.

** Robb started his silverware business in Kincardine O'Neil, Aberdeenshire and later moved to Ballater, where his pieces did not use the local town mark but where stamped in Edinburgh.
