Description

This magnificent antique Victorian Scottish cast sterling silver bell has been realistically modelled in the form of Queen Victoria holding a dog* and grasping a cane.

The body of the cast figurine is depicted wearing multiple layers of draped garments fastened with a ribbon bow.

The handle of this magnificent sterling silver bell is embellished with the details of the Queen's head, facial features and bonnet.

This Victorian table bell retains the original hallmarked clapper; the ball of the clapper is connected to the head/handle with the flight of the clapper, all encased within the Queen's body.

This magnificent table bell is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire.

* Through her life Queen Victoria had a wide range of pets. It can be determined this dog may represent either Islay the Skye terrier or Dash the King Charles spaniel. Dash was the Queen's closest childhood companion and loyal pet and upon his death was buried at Adelaide Cottage, with a marble effigy stating: Here lies Dash, the favourite spaniel of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, in his 10th year, his attachment was without selfishness, his playfulness without malice, his fidelity without deceit, if you would be beloved and die regretted, profit by the example of Dash

Condition

This antique Victorian sterling silver bell is a superior gauge of silver than expected for an example such as this, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the figurine and part hallmarks struck to the clapper are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the superior gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique Victorian silverware.
