Sterling Silver 'Acorn' Vinaigrette - Antique Victorian

Description

This antique Victorian sterling silver vinaigrette has a acorn shaped form.

The surface of the vinaigrette is plain and unembellished.

This antique vinaigrette is fitted with a plain hallmarked hinged cover featuring a subtle thumbpiece to the anterior surface and surmounted with a ring loop attachment, replicating the stem of the acorn.

The hinged cupule/cover of the vinaigrette allows access to the original hallmarked, hinged pierced floral decorated grille.

The interior of the vinaigrette and grille retain the original gilding.

Maker: Unknown
Date: 1867

Condition

This antique vinaigrette is a very good gauge of silver, very good quality and in excellent condition.

There is slight movement to the hinged grill but it remains secure.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the rim and part hallmarks to the interior of the cover and the underside of the grille show signs of wear in keeping with age, but remain legible.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of Victorian silverware.
