Description


This magnificent antique George IV sterling silver ale jug has a baluster shaped form onto a circular spreading foot.


The body of this impressive silver ale jug is embellished with exceptional chased floral and scroll decoration accented with a mystical fish design to the lower portion.


The other side of the body is ornametned with a fine chased decorated Bacchanalian scene depicitng putto* figures amidst goats and vines.


The decoration to the body incorporates a shaped scroll and leaf bordered vacant cartouche surmounted with a crowned Neptune-like mask.


The underside of the spout is ornamented with a large and impressive chased bearded mask .


The jug is fitted with an exceptional C scroll handle with single leaf design to the thumbpiece and lower portion of the handpiece.


This impressive antique ale jug retains the original gilded interior.


This large silver ale jug is truly magnificent and impressive; although a mug has been placed next to the ale jug to provide a comparison of size, the video conveys a more accurate representation of the true dimensions of this piece.


* In art and culture, a putto (plural: putti) is a chubby male child, usually nude and occasionally bearing wings.

This antique silver ale jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The chased decoration is all very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the jug are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique silverware.
