Sterling Silver Asparagus Dish - Antique George V

This exceptional antique George V sterling silver asparagus dish has a plain rounded rectangular, incurved form.

The surface of the dish is plain and unembellished, with an applied moulded border paralleling the incurved rim.

Either end of this sterling silver dish features an impressive cast sterling silver rounded handle accented with incurved motifs to the handpiece.

This exceptional example of antique silverware is supported with four cast silver hoof style feet.

The dish retains the original hallmarked wirework style draining rack, mirroring the incurved shape of the dish.

The sterling silver rack is supported by six ball style feet and is fitted with four elevated trefoil shaped fingerpieces.

This impressive serving dish features a pair of associate hallmarked sterling silver asparagus serving tongs.

The elongated rectangular blades of the tongs are embellished with impressive pierced interlacing leaf decoration.

The surface of the tongs is embellished with a paralleling tooled decorated border, continuing across the blades, stems and bridge.

The pinching action of the tongs is guided by a thread decorated rectangular support to the stems.

This exceptional dish was crafted by the Sheffield silversmith William Hutton & Sons Ltd in 1922 and the asparagus servers were made by the renowned London silversmith and flatware specialist George William Adams of Chawner & Co, in 1860.
