Description


This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver coaster has a plain cylindrical form to a domed spreading base.


The anterior surface of this impressive coaster is embellished with an embossed illustration of a three mast ship with sails and swallow tailed pennons/pennants, displayed on a rolling sea scene.


The upper portion of this silver wine bottle holder/coaster is encircled with a plain applied moulded girdle in addition to an applied moulded border to the undulating shaped upper rim.


This antique bottle coaster is fitted with two handles ornamented with leaf textures to the handpieces and scrolling ornamentation to each socket.


The underside of this sterling silver wine coaster bears the retailer's mark 'Edward & Sons, Silversmiths to the King, Glasgow'.


NOTE: The majority of such bottle coasters have a wooden base; it is a sign of quality when coasters have unlined, solid silver bases.

Condition


This antique silver wine bottle holder/coaster is a very good gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The coaster has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition

The underside of the coaster has natural fire marks in keeping with age.

The embossed and applied decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body have wear in keeping with age and location.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique Edwardian silverware.
