Description

This exceptional antique George V sterling silver café au lait set consists of a coffee pot and hot milk pot.

Each piece has a plain cylindrical tapering form to a stepped spreading foot.

The surface of each piece is plain and embellished with a bright cut engraved crest displaying on a mound a ram rampant, charged with a crescent fessways.

The upper rims of the coffee and milk pot are encompassed with an applied moulded border.

Each piece is fitted with the original hallmarked domed panelled hinged cover surmounted by an impressive cast silver circular urn style finial.

The milk and coffee pots retain the original turned wood side-handles to plain cylindrical sterling silver sockets.

Each piece has an impressive cast sterling silver swan necked spout with a scrolling design to the underside and leaf design to the upper surface of the lip.

One of these Sheffield made antique silver jugs was crafted by Marples & Co in 1905 and the other by Martin Hall & Co Ltd in 1913; Marples & Co was a wholly owned subsidiary of Martin, Hall & Co.
