Sterling Silver Candlesticks by James Dixon & Sons - Antique Victorian (1899)

These exceptional antique Victorian Sheffield sterling silver candlesticks have an oval form to a knopped tapering column onto an oval spreading base, in the Adams style.

These antique English silver candlesticks have oval bell shaped capitals with flared rims and are encompassed with subtle concave, panelled fluted decoration accented with applied pendant bud festoons.

Each candlestick retains the original hallmarked push fit sconce with reed decoration to the moulded rim.

The knop to the upper portion of each column is encompassed with further reed decoration below a festoon band of buds.

The tapering knopped column of each candlestick replicates the fluted and bud ornamentation of the capital.

The oval spreading bases are further ornamented with embossed subtly concave fluted decoration, in addition to further bud and reed decoration, reflecting the design to the aforementioned knop.

These antique silver candlesticks have weighted bases and are fitted with green baize to the underside; the hallmarked silver portion of the underside bears the registration number '2796 F1457'.

These antique Sheffield silver candlesticks are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent condition in keeping with age.

There is a slight indentation to the base of one candlestick; the candlesticks have been priced accordingly.

Full hallmarks struck to the rim of each base and part hallmarks to the sleeve of the sconces and underside of each base are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these examples of Victorian silverware.
