Description

The pieces of this exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver straight* flatware service for six persons have been crafted in the Old English Thread pattern.

The anterior and reverse surfaces of each piece of Edwardian cutlery are embellished with thread decoration paralleling the shape of the handle and encompassing the rounded heel.

The surface of each handle, excluding the table and dessert knives, is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting out of a coronet an ostrich with wings extended, holding in the mouth a worm.

The reverse of each spoon and anterior of each fork features a pip to the handle terminal.

This Edwardian cutlery set consists of 36 pieces:

Basic Service:
6 Table knives
6 Table forks
6 Table spoons
6 Dessert knives
6 Dessert forks
6 Dessert spoons

The fundamental pieces of this silver cutlery set have been crafted by the collectable London silversmiths Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd in 1905, apart from the table and dessert knives, which are replacements**.

This antique Edwardian canteen of cutlery is supplied in felt cutlery rolls; which not only protect the items in storage but significantly reduce tarnishing.

* "Straight" means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year.

** ** Predominately all antique silver canteens have replacement knives as the originals have not stood the test of time.
