The pieces of this exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver cutlery set for twelve persons have been crafted in the Fiddle and Shell pattern.

The surface of each handle is embellished with a shell design to the terminal.

This Victorian silver cutlery set consists of 75 pieces:

6 Table/Serving spoons
12 Dessert knives
12 Dessert forks
12 Dessert spoons
Additional Pieces
4 Salt spoons
Pair of gravy spoons
Pair of sauce ladles
Soup ladle

The fundamental pieces of this straight* service have been crafted in 1894 and the replacement sterling silver handled knives were made by C F Hancock & Co in 1966.

The soup ladle and gravy spoons were crafted by the flatware maker George Piercy and assayed in London, England in 1825.

This exceptional canteen of cutlery is fitted to an impressive oak wood lift up lid and two drawer canteen box which features fine and impressive brass carrying handles to either side, in addition to each drawer.

* "Straight" means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year.

** Predominately all antique silver canteens have replacement knives as the originals have not stood the test of time.

This antique Victorian silver cutlery set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The flatware service has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.

The oak wood box has been professionally polished by a cabinet maker and can also be considered to be in presentation condition.

The shell decorated terminals have wear in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each piece are all very clear; hallmarks are deeply struck due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine and impressive canteen.
