Description

The pieces of this exceptional vintage George VI sterling silver flatware service for 12 persons have been crafted in the Hanoverian Rat Tail pattern.

The surface of each handle is plain and unembellished, apart from a pip to the anterior terminal.

Each spoon features an impressive rat tail ornamentation to the reverse of the bowl.

This straight* canteen of cutlery consists of 90 pieces:

Basic Service:
12 Table knives
12 Table forks
12 Soup spoons
12 Dessert knives
12 Dessert forks
12 Dessert spoons
12 Teaspoons
Additional Pieces:
6 Serving spoons

The fundamental pieces of this silver cutlery set have been crafted by the Sheffield silversmith Atkin Brothers in 1940, apart from the table and dessert knives, which are replacements**; the components will have been crafted in the same year but due to the hallmarking system the items are struck with the date letters x and y.

This service benefits from a set of 6 Hanoverian Rat Tail pattern serving spoons crafted in 1940 by the Birmingham silversmith Barker Brothers Silver Ltd.

This vintage flatware service is supplied in felt cutlery rolls; which not only protect the items in storage but significantly reduce tarnishing.

* "Straight" means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year.

** Predominately all vintage silver canteens have replacement knives as the originals have not stood the test of time. These replacement handles are a superior gauge of silver.
