An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver commemorative card case featuring The Crystal Palace; an addition to our range of collectable silverware

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver card case has a shaped rectangular form.


The anterior surface of this case is embellished with fine and impressive chased and embossed scroll, foliate and floral decoration on a matt background incorporating The Crystal Palace* depicted in relief.


The decoration to the reverse of the case incorporates a shaped cartouche displaying the contemporary engraved initials 'ISD'.


The shaped sides of this piece are embellished with plain scrolling borders.


This antique silver card case is fitted with a hinged cover ornamented with further scroll and foliate designs on a matt background.


The top of the cover bears a 'lozenge mark' which certifies the patent of this piece on 27th November 1850 with the UK Patent Office.


* The Crystal Palace was a temporary cast-iron and plate glass structure erected initially in Hyde Park, London to accommodate the Great Exhibition of 1851. The building was redesigned and reconstructed in 1852 on Sydenham Hill in south east London.

This antique castle top card case is a very good gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The decoration to this piece is very sharp and the engraved initials are very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the rim are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Victorian silverware.
