Description

This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver table lighter has been realistically modelled in the form of a four wheeled carriage.

The swept body of the carriage is plain and embellished with the contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a demi-griffin holding a sword, above the motto 'Veritas via vitæ' - Truth the way of life.

The ornamentation to the body incorporates an applied curved match holder, fitted with steel match striker to either side.

The other end of the body is fitted with an applied scrolling bracket style handpiece.

This impressive novelty silver lighter is surmounted with a cylindrical channel and retains the original screw fit cover ornamented with bead ornamentation; once removed this allows access to the wick.

The upper plateau of this antique silver table lighter is fitted with four detachable hallmarked taper holders, ornamented with a bud style terminal, encompassed with leaf designs.

The lower portion of the piece surmounts four functional hallmarked wheels, conjoined via a plain hallmarked axles.
