Description


This magnificent Edwardian sterling silver centrepiece has an incurved shaped form supported on four feet.


The main central receiver has a plain square shaped form to an elevated circular waisted support and circular receiver.


The waisted portion is encompassed with four cast and applied lion mask designs, flanked to the upper and lower portions with a simplified layered leaf decorated border.


Either side of this central segment features a further receiver surmounting an magnificent cast and applied mythological figure which bears the head and upper body of a human child and the tail of a fish; the tail is bifurcating and self-entwined.


These two additional receivers are encompassed with further applied layered lead decorated borders, in addition to a vase shaped terminal to the lower portion.


Each of the three detachable hallmarked receivers retain the original hallmarked circular bowl securing with a screw fitment; the central bowl is larger than the supporting two.


These antique centrepiece bowls are embellished with an applied plain scrolling border to the shaped rim.


The elongated base of this impressive antique centrepiece is encompassed with a paralleling applied layered leaf border to the rim.


This magnificent silver centrepiece is supported by four cast and applied feet displaying scrolling leaf and shell ornamentation; the foot to each end conjoins with the impressive figural supports.


The underside of the base allows access to the screw fitment for each support and bears the retailer's mark 'Mappin & Webb'.

Condition

These antique silver centrepiece bowls are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The cast and applied decoration is all very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the centrepiece, in addition to part hallmarks to each bowl and receiver support are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of thee fine examples of antique silverware.
