Sterling Silver Chamber Candlestick - George I Style - Antique Victorian

£1,595.00

A fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver chamber candlestick in the George I style; an addition to our Victorian silver candlestick/candelabra collection

SKU A5242

This fine antique Victorian sterling silver chamberstick (chamber candlestick) has a plain circular form in the George I style.

The well is plain and unembellished, encompassed with a plain elevated border.

The plain cylindrical capital retains the original detachable hallmarked sconce ornamented with a plain applied moulded border.

This antique chamberstick is fitted with a stylised Trefid pattern handle, embellished with two contemporary bright cut engraved crests of a squirrel sejant eating a nut to the right of an elephant and castle.

The underside of the handle features a decorative rounded socket.

Maker: John Septimus Beresford

Date: 1889

This antique silver chamberstick is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent presentation condition.

There are some natural fire marks to the well, in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks struck to the rim of the well and sleeve of the sconce are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of Victorian silverware.

Length from back of handle to front rim 30.9cm/12.2"

Diameter of wax pan 16.6cm/6.5"

Diameter of capital 4.4cm/1.7"
