Sterling Silver Combination Vinaigrette / Scent Bottle - Antique Victorian

£1,975.00

An exceptional, fine and impressive, large English sterling silver combination vinaigrette / scent bottle - antique Victorian; an addition to our diverse collectable silverware collection

SKU A7511

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver combination vinaigrette / scent bottle is realistically modelled in the form of a curved hunting horn.

The large body of the horn and cover of the scent are embellished with applied plain broad girdles, which provide anchor points for the original link chain.

The'mouth piece' end of the horn retains the original hallmarked screw fit cover to the Victorian silver scent bottle.

The 'bell' of the horn is fitted with a hallmarked hinged cover, which when opened reveals the vinaigrette with the original hinged grille and gilt interior.

The gilded grille is ornamented with a bright cut engraved and pierced decorated bordered scroll and leaf design.

The decoration to the grille incorporates the maker's details 'S Mordan & Co, London' in addition to a 'lozenge mark' which certifies the patent of this piece on 22nd June 1870 with the UK Patent Office.

This antique sterling silver combination vinaigrette / scent bottle, which is a large example of its type, was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Sampson Mordan & Co.
