Sterling Silver Corinthian Column Candlesticks - Antique George III (1761)

These fine antique George III sterling silver candlesticks have Corinthian columns to a square swept base to a collet style rim.

The pierced decorated Corinthian capital of each candlestick retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit sconce.

Each sconce is ornamented with a band of embossed gadroon decoration to the rim.

The swept portions of the bases are ornamented with bands of impressive embossed gadroon ornamentation below scrolling leaf designs encompassing the plain lower portion of the columns.

Both Georgian candlesticks have weighted bases, as to be expected, and are fitted with green baize to the underside.

These Corinthian column candlesticks are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

There are a few minor dings and surface blemishes, in keeping with age.

The embossed decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the rim of each base, and lion passant to the sleeve of each sconce are all very clear, in keeping with age and location.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of antique silverware.

Height 29.5cm/11.6"

Width of sconce 7.5cm/3" square

An accurate weight for silver content cannot be provided as these candlesticks have weighted bases.
