Description

This exceptional antique George V sterling silver cup and cover has a waisted, rounded quatrefoil shaped form onto a domed foot.

The undulating surface of the cup is plain and unembellished with an applied reed decorated border to the upper rim.

The vessel of the cup is ornamented with four cast sterling silver figural busts; these supports emanate from the lower portion and conjoin with the pedestal.

The aforementioned ornamentation encircles a swept knop to the pedestal, supported by a plain foot to a paralleling collet style rim.

This sterling silver trophy cup is fitted with an domed hallmarked cover, reflecting the shape of the body; the cover secures with a bayonet fitment, this indicates the high quality of the piece.

The cover is surmounted with an exceptional cast sterling silver flame style finial.

The interior of the cup and cover retains the original gilding.

This exceptional example of antique silverware is fitted to the original painted wood plinth, with a vacant silver inscription plaque; the plaque may be engraved with a personal inscription if so desired.

The plinth bears the inset retailer's mark 'The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Ltd, 112 Regent St, London, W'; the underside of the foot also features the retailer's mark.

This exceptional sterling silver cup and cover was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd.
