Sterling Silver Egg Cruet Set For Six Persons - Antique Georgian (1812)

This exceptional antique sterling silver egg cruet set consists of six egg cups and six associated spoons, displayed on the functional original purpose-made stand.

The original hallmarked egg cups have a bell shaped form onto a circular spreading foot.

These antique silver egg cups are embellished with applied moulded girdles, in addition to contemporary bright cut engraved crests of an otter passant, grasping in the mouth a fish.

Each egg cup is further ornamented with an applied gadroon decorated border to the rim and tooled ornamentation to the foot.

The egg cups retain the original gilded interiors

The six associated hallmarked Newcastle sterling silver spoons have been crafted in the Fiddle pattern; the spoons were crafted by the flatware specialist Thomas Watson in 1804.

These egg spoons are embellished with the contemporary engraved initial 'R'.

Each egg cup and spoon are supported and displayed on the rounded rectangular stand, ornamented with the aforementioned crest.

The stand bears a detachable hallmarked plateau featuring six circular receivers enabling the egg cups to stand securely in situ; these supports alternate with integrated receivers for the six egg spoons.

The upper portion of the stand incorporates a rectangular receiver accommodated with an exceptional cut glass salt cellar; this hallmarked segment of the stand attaches to the base with a screw fitment.

The original antique stand features a central wirework style carrying handle accented with a floral motif to the handpiece.

The weighted base of the stand incorporates green baize to the underside.

This antique Georgian egg cruet is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The applied decoration is very sharp and the engraved ornamentation is very crisp.

Full British hallmarks to the surface of each portion of the stand and each egg cup, in addition to the reverse of each spoon are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this silver cruet set.
