This exceptional antique George V sterling silver table lighter has been realistically modelled in the form of a seated imp / grotesque figure.

The body of the piece is embellished with embossed decoration reproducing the details of the figures anatomical features.

The hallmarked head/cover of the piece is embellished with further embossed decoration replicating the grotesque and unusual facial features of the creature; once removed this allows access to the wick..

The posterior surface of the head bears the registration number 'RD 583252', in addition to a portion of embossed hair.

The head of the figure is surmounted with a plain circular dished drip pan and incorporates a plain cylindrical wick holder.

This impressive antique silver table lighter is a very good gauge of silver for its type, exceptional quality for its type and in exceptional condition.

The embossed ornamentation is all very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the base, in addition to the part hallmarks to the cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique silverware.
