Sterling Silver Fruit Serving Spoons - Antique Victorian (1890)

These exceptional antique Victorian English sterling silver serving spoons have been crafted in the highly desirable Bacchanalian pattern*.

The anterior surface of each cast sterling silver handle terminal is embellished with a scene depicting three partially clothed intoxicated figures, one sat on a lioness, all surrounded by fruiting vine ornamentation; the pattern title determines that these figures were celebrating the festival of Bacchus.

The posterior surface of each stem incorporates further undulating vine ornamentation, accented with a wine vase and crossed Thyrsis**.

These exceptional Victorian silver fruit serving spoons have scalloped shell style bowls accented with an exceptional figural mask of the Bacchus, the Greek God of the grape harvest and wine, to the heel.

These antique fruit spoons were crafted by the renowned London silversmiths William Gibson & John Lawrence Langman of Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co.

* The Bacchanalian pattern was originally designed by the renowned and Regency period inspired silversmith Paul Storr for Rundell, Bridge & Rundell.

** Thyrsis: A fennel staff tipped with a pine cone and twinned with ivy, carried by Bacchus
