This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver desk standish, has a rectangular form.
This inkstand is fitted with a hallmarked gallery, embellished with impressive pierced scrolling foliate ornamentation, incorporating a shield shaped vacant cartouche to the posterior side.
The shaped, incurved rim of the body and anterior rim of the sterling silver inkstand are ornamented with a paralleling applied gadroon decorated border.
The surface of the inkstand incorporates a concave oval pen receiver.
The body of the inkstand incorporates two ink bottle receivers, embellished with pierced decorated dividers reflecting the same design to that of the body; these compartments secure to the body via a screw fitment to the underside.
The two internal compartments retain the original square glass ink bottles with cut glass ornamentation, in addition to impressive stepped design to the upper plateau.
The ink bottles retain the original plain hallmarked silver cylindrical mounts fitted with hinged hallmarked covers.
The rim of each circular cover is encircled with an applied gadroon style border.
This antique hallmarked silver inkstand is supported by four impressive bracket style feet embellished with scrolling leaf decoration.
This silver ink standish was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Edward Barnard & Sons Ltd.
The underside of this impressive inkstand bears the retailer's mark 'J. E. Lake & Son, Silversmiths, Exeter'.
